A MAN is in a critical condition after an accident on the Calder Highway at Gisborne this morning.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the emergency call came in about 7.30am after a car smashed into a tree.
"There were two males in the car, one has minor injuries and the other was trapped in the vehicle," the spokesman said.
""He has critical injuries.
"They couldn't get the helicopter in, it must have been low cloud cover so they're going by road to the Royal Melbourne."
VicRoads has advised motorists to expect heavy delays with one southbound lane closed near Dalrymple Road.
