Darran Johnson, Ben Janssen and Callum Janssen will all play for Australia at the International Roller Sports Federation In-line Hockey World Championships to be held in July in Anaheim.
Johnson and Ben Janssen will play in Australia’s open team at the championships, while the tournament will also double as the In-line Hockey Junior Olympics, with teenager Callum Janssen to play in that event for Australia.
The trio, who all play for the Bendigo Blaze In-line Hockey Club, earned their selection in the Australian team after competing at last year’s national championships.
“That was a week-long national tournament involving all the states, and from there, the players are selected to go over to America and play in the worlds,” Johnson said yesterday.
“It’s obviously going to be a fantastic experience playing on the world stage against some of the best in-line hockey players, who get paid to play.
“We’re all really looking forward to the trip.”
The world championships will be played at the famous Honda Centre – the home of well-known National Hockey League club, the Anaheim Ducks.
More than 60 teams from 25 countries are expected to play in the world championships, to be held from July 7 to 21.
Both amateur and professional players are eligible to compete at the world in-line hockey championships.
To help assist in making the trip to America, the three players are hoping to attract sponsorship.
Those interested in sponsoring the players can contact The Zone, home of Bendigo’s in-line hockey team, in East Bendigo on 5441 7046.
