The $1.5 million project included the construction of a new bridge with pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths and vehicle lanes over the Bendigo Creek.
The project took four months and was funded by the City of Greater Bendigo and the federal government’s Road to Recovery program.
Long-time local Roy Wilkinson said that in the past, Wesley Street was cut off and covered with dangerous floodwater after rain.
“I’ve been living here
47 years and when the creek flooded, you couldn’t use it,” he said.
“I thought it was a terrific idea to update it.”
Mr Wilkinson said the upgraded road would cut travelling time significantly.
“To go from my house to Bunnings, you have to go down Crusoe Road and it takes six or seven minutes,” he said.
“Now with this bridge it’ll only take two minutes.”?
