The Suns won all five of their one-day games this season to claim the shield for the third time, having also won it last year and in its inaugural season in 2008-09.
“It’s always good to win any silverware that’s on offer,” Strathdale-Maristians captain Linton Jacobs said yesterday.
“The boys played some good one-day cricket during the season. Apart from the last game (against Golden Square last Saturday) I thought we batted very well, and our fielding and bowling was spot on.
“But probably what has been the biggest key for us is our depth, and that’s why we’ve been able to be so successful in the limited overs, because we have a lot of options with our batting and bowling.”
The Suns cruised through most of their one-day games, but were given a scare last Saturday by Golden Square when they snuck over the line by eight runs at Bell Oval defending their score of 9-199.
“It was a tight game of cricket last weekend and I thought the boys responded well,” Jacobs said.
“The game was up for grabs in the last few overs of Golden Square’s innings.
“But I thought the boys stood up with the ball and in the field under pressure.
“We just need to keep winning games of cricket and stick to what we know works.”
Last Saturday’s victory over Golden Square also extended Strathdale-Maristians’ unbeaten run to 20 games.
The Suns, who are the two-time defending premiers, haven’t been beaten since losing to Strathfieldsaye by 52 runs on December 17, 2011.
With the one-day matches now completed for the season, the Suns turn their focus back to two-day action, starting this Saturday against Kangaroo Flat.
