BENDIGO Braves teams will be shooting for glory when the Bendigo “Skin, Ski & Surf” Junior Basketball Classic climaxes today.
Some final round games and semi-finals are set to be contested this morning, before grand finals in the 24 divisions begin from 1pm at Bendigo Stadium.
About 1800 players ranging from under-12s to under-20s have battled it out at the 36th annual Classic, with top-quality hoops action across the three-day event.
Braves junior teams have contested each age group at the tournament, with the 12B, 14A and 18A boys’ teams playing quarter-finals late yesterday.
The 16A boys are another leading hope after winning its first four matches ahead of today’s final round match against Mildura Heat.
With a 2-1 record to start the tournament, the 14C boys have two matches today before the grand finalists are decided.
In the girls’ divisions, the Braves’ 12C are headed for a semi-final after a perfect start of three wins, while the 12B girls are 1-1 with another match to play today.
The 14A girls also won their first three matches, while the B and C teams were both 2-1.
The 16A’s and B’s played quarter-finals last night, while the 18A teams are still in contention for finals action.
A total of 187 teams from across Victoria have converged on Bendigo for the event, with about 5000 people expected to come to the region across the three days of matches.
