Baby girl dies after being found in hot car

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a baby girl who was found in a car in Bendigo on Tuesday night.

The six-month-old child was found in a car on Thistle Street in the suburb of Golden Square about 7.10pm.

She was treated by police and paramedics at the scene before being taken to Bendigo Hospital, where she later died.

A police spokeswoman said a 27-year-old Golden Square woman had been assisting police with their inquiries.

She was interviewed overnight and has been released without charge.

The investigation continues.

Several people surrounding the home were visibly distressed as police spoke to those nearby. The baby was found in a late-model Commodore.

The temperature in Bendigo reached 30.4 degrees yesterday, and was still around that mark when the baby was found. It was unclear whether that had contributed to the child's death.
