“I am Garry Angus’s mother. To me losing Garry meant the family chain was broken. We have a very close, strong family, so a break in the chain has a rippling effect on everyone. Garry’s bubbly and happy personality means his demise has left a huge hole, and is very obvious at family gatherings. To his own family the loss is indescribable. None of us can take over the role of father to Belinda and Tim, we can only use our love and strength to support them.
As his mother, I have suffered anguish along with his father, Keith. Both Keith and I would hate to see another family go through the tragedy that our family has in the past 14 months. Physically, both Keith’s and my own health have suffered. My asthma has been hard to control. At times my blood pressure has skyrocketed.
“All of this, and the emotional turmoil, have also impacted on my sleeping patterns. I miss Garry’s infectious laughter and effervescent presence in my family life. As the joint head of my family, I have also struggled with the impact of Garry’s murder on my children and grandchildren. Belinda and Tim lost their father, and a chance to share all their important days with their father, and each of Garry’s nieces and nephews lost a much loved uncle.
“We know we cannot bring Garry back and our life will never be the same, but I’d like to know that other families will not have to face the same despair and anguish.”
