As part of the CFA Sunday initiative, the aim of the open day was to invite the public to see their local fire brigade in action.
Eaglehawk Fire Brigade secretary Krystal Widdows said it was the second year the brigade had taken part in CFA Sunday.
She said the hot weather had encouraged more families to come out and see what the brigade did.
“This year the CFA have been promoting the event for a while and we have had a lot more people come in this year than last year,” Ms Widdows said.
“We had young kids playing on the trucks and we had a community barbecue.
“Being a hotter day, we also set up one of the water lines and the kids played with the water.”
Ms Widdows said there was also information on display about how residents could prepare their homes ahead of summer.
“It is all about preparing in case of a bushfire,” she said.
“For example, Black Saturday could have been prevented.
“There were embers flying into the gutters of homes and if gutters are not clean,
that’s when fire can take over.” Ms Widdows said the brigade was also holding a free bushfire information evening tonight.
She said it was an important meeting and encouraged the community to attend.
“We have lots of information for people to set up home plans, evacuation plans and learn how to become a CFA member.”
Ms Widdows said it was important for residents to have fire plans ready.
“A lot of people you speak to might say they have a plan but it is not written down,” she said.
“We have all seen what has happened in the past and how quickly a fire can come through.
“We hope that doesn’t happen again but if it does it is all about preparation.”
The bushfire information session will be held at the Eaglehawk Fire Station at 7pm tonight. ??
