Bendigo – which hasn’t won a top-grade premiership since 1980 – continues to dominate as the only undefeated team left in the BBD.
Bendigo was far too good for Strathfieldsaye last week with a 42-shot victory that moved it 17 points clear at the top of the ladder.
Castlemaine has proven it will be a finals contender this season as it sits third on the ladder with a 3-2 record, but was beaten by Golden Square by 12 shots last week.
A highlight of today’s encounter would be a match-up between Bendigo skipper Gary Carberry and Castlemaine’s Rod Phillips, who are both undefeated.
Last time: Bendigo 103 d Castlemaine 94 (minor semi-final).
● Bendigo East will be looking to build on its grand final rematch win over Eaglehawk last week when it travels to Kangaroo Flat.
After its slow start to the season, the sleeping giant that is three-time defending premiers East could be starting to awaken.
East won three of the four rinks against the Hawks to claim its second win of the season.
Kangaroo Flat is 14 points clear inside the top four, but needs to keep winning to maintain its breathing space.
Last time: Bendigo East 122 d Kangaroo Flat 82.
● Golden Square should consolidate its position in the top four when it takes on Inglewood at Inglewood.
Square – one of this season’s big improvers – is 4-1, meaning a win today would already equal its tally of five last season.
After an encouraging start to the season, Inglewood has hit the skids over the past fortnight, with back-to-back losses by a combined 82 shots.
Last time: Inglewood 105 d Golden Square 80.
● Only a major upset will prevent Eaglehawk from squaring its ledger at 3-3 when it takes on bottom side Strathfieldsaye at Strathfieldsaye.
The fifth-placed Hawks have won their past six games against Strathfieldsaye by an average of 27 shots, with another comfortable margin looming today.
Last time: Eaglehawk 104 d Strathfieldsaye 74.
