UNSOLICITED emails and e-fraud are on the rise.This week a Bendigo woman found out about the issue the hard way.The proprietor of the Elm Motel in Bendigo, Julie Trezise, was dealing with a potential customer via email when she began to have concerns about certain issues.Ms Tresize said the prospective client had asked her to withdraw money from his account and then place it in another.When she realised the transaction did not seem as open as she expected, she contacted Bendigo police.In the US alone 49,000 people have their identity stolen every day, and in Australia it has become a multi-billion-dollar problem.Police have tips on how to prevent identity theft and fraud on the City of Greater Bendigo website.
