NINE people who risked their lives during the 1999 Kangaroo Flat siege will be honoured today with Australian Bravery Decorations, but the recipients agree 100 medals would be needed to fully recognise the courage of those involved.

The Commonwealth honours come more than three years after John Wason opened fire from the front porch of his High Street home, shooting four Bendigo policemen.
A formal announcement will be made today that Sergeant Tony Commadeur, Sergeant Peter Lukaitis, Detective Senior Constable Craig Miller, and civilians Harold Stirton, Hendrikus Beckmans and Mary-Ann Beckmans have been awarded the Bravery Medal.
Senior Constables Gary Harrison, Michala Maskell and Frank Reid have individually been awarded a Commendation for Brave Conduct.
The awards, which will be presented in a ceremony at Government House later this year, recognise ``the selfless actions of members of the community who have taken a deliberate decision, thereby placing their own lives in danger in order to help or save others caught in life-threatening and/or hazardous circumstances''.
