BUSINESS in Elmore is booming and shop owners are having to double their efforts to meet tourism demands this week. The surge in visitor numbers is due to the arrival of more than 1000 members attending the 14th annual Caravan Clubs Rally at the Elmore Events Centre, combined with school holidaymakers and tourists seeking a change from city life.Elmore Bakery owners Dee and Nathan Bowes said they were run off their feet and enjoying strong sales.“We’re seeing about 100 extra customers per day,” Mrs Bowes said.“Our bushman’s pies are proving popular, but we’re also selling out of bread on most days and the apple turnovers are a hit with the caravan club members.”Mrs Bowes said the bakery usually had a steady flow of customers during lunch, but the increase demand had forced her and her husband into overdrive.“It’s a great boost for the business and the town,” Mrs Bowes said.First-year owners of the Elmore IGA supermarket, Lance and his wife Leonie Mitchell, said they were also seeing a boost in customer numbers and had struggled to keep the shelves full.“The demand for fly and mozzie sprays as well as fruit, vegetables and necessities has been very high,” Mr Mitchell said.“Some days we’re struggling to keep up with the demand, but it’s positive for the town and we hope it keeps up.”Organisers of the Elmore national Caravan Club Rally were asking club members to hold onto their purchase receipts, for the committee to do a final tally.Event secretary Elaine Nichols estimated millions of dollars would be injected into both Elmore’s and the surrounding area’s economies.“This is just another benefit of events such as the Caravan Club Rally, which can help boost the town and its people,” she said.“Members are also enjoying many of the regions activities including sports and tours.”
