CITY of Greater Bendigo chief executive Craig Niemann was on his bike yesterday to encourage everyone to leave their cars at home next month and ride to work.Ride to Work Day is on Wednesday, October 13, and Mr Niemann said the event was continuing to grow each year. Two hundred cyclists took part last year.“This year Bendigo police will attend the community breakfast and provide special identification stickers to cyclists to place on their bikes so the bike can be identified if it is stolen or lost,” he said.“A bike and a helmet is all that’s needed to participate and I encourage staff from all CBD-based workplaces to join in by riding to work and enjoying the free community breakfast.“Each year more and more workers are participating in this special event and also taking the opportunity to enjoy the free community breakfast in the Civic Gardens from 7.30am to 9am.”The Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst will cook up a hot breakfast, with food donated by Safeway Marketplace, Bakers Delight Marketplace and Bakers Delight Lyttleton Terrace. A range of lighter breakfast food will also be available.Everyone who attends the Ride to Work Day breakfast will also have a chance to win some great prizes donated by Bendigo Cycles, Harding Cycles, Cycle Concepts and Moronis Bike Shop.To register for the day, go to www.ridetowork.com.au or phone Tahmeika Napier on 5434 6449 for more information.
