At 110 years old, Myer is still on the way up

MYER Bendigo is celebrating a milestone birthday this weekend.Today marks 110 years since department store founder Sidney Myer opened the first store in Pall Mall.To mark the special occasion today, store manager Paul Dynon said there would be activities throughout the day, including fashion parades and face-painting, and staff would celebrate with a birthday cake.“It’s exciting that we’re the first store,” Mr Dynon said.“It’s pretty unique – when I went to get the cake they said they had never made one for a 110-year-old before.”Fashion parades will run in store throughout the day as well as birthday specials and the chance to win a home theatre package.Mr Dynon said the company was still going strong, moving through a growth and development phase, and more store openings were planned. Melbourne’s Myer store will celebrate 100 years next year.
