That advice comes from someone who should be authority on the matter: Bess McGuire won four firsts and a second in knitting at this year’s Bendigo Agricultural Show.
Bess has been knitting for about 16 and a half years, taking up the hobby when she was awaiting the arrival of one of her great grand-daughters.
She became hooked, and said she had probably knitted a shawl for every one of her great-grandchildren since.
Even on Friday, with five new awards under her belt, Bess was again knitting, this time a baby helmet to enter in the Heathcote Agricultural Show.
“I just love doing it,” she said.
