CHRIS Hogan will play a 15th season with Bendigo Braves after agreeing to continue with the reigning SEABL national champions.
The Braves' games record holder enjoyed one of his finest seasons during the Braves' championship year, averaging 11.3 points, five rebounds and 1.6 assists.
He scored 10 points, including three three-pointers, and gathered seven rebounds in their 79-61 grand final win over Mount Gambier Pioneers.
Hogan said the decision to play on was an easy one once long-serving coach Ben Harvey had re-signed last month.
"I enjoyed the season so much last year and you are long time retired, so I am told," he said.
"So I figured while I still can I'll keep on playing.
Hogan was hopeful long-time teammate, good mate and his 2016 season co-captain Taylor Bell would also re-sign with the Braves.
"I'm putting the pressure on, but he's got a lot on with his business and things that he runs alongside of his family," he said.
"I would like to see him play again.
"He's younger than me, so he isn't allowed to retire before I do."
It will be a new-look Braves line-up in 2017, with star import and league MVP Jeremy Kendle, fellow American Damian Johnson and Illawarra Hawks point guard Kevin White not returning.
In their place the Braves have signed another NBL point guard Adam Doyle, from the Adelaide 36ers, and exciting American point guard Dyami Starks.
A key component of last year's title-winning team, centre Matt Andronicus is returning to Bendigo, with a second import to be announced early this year.
Albeit with a few new faces, Hogan said he had absolute faith in coach Harvey's ability to build another championship contender.
"Ben's very good at that and has been for a long time, putting together teams that are very, very competitive," he said.
"Unfortunately that's only part of the puzzle, getting everyone to play together and getting everyone on the same page sometimes takes a bit more time.
"Fingers crossed this happens pretty quickly like it did this year.
"With the calibre of players we have returning and coming in it could quite possibly happen."
Hogan, who part of the Braves' previous national championship win in 2005, is equally keen to hang around to see what the club's blossoming core of Bendigo-bred talent can accomplish.
"We have a number of kids who are returning, well they are not so much kids anymore, but are getting a bit older and had a few years to learn the ropes," he said.
"It's probably time for them to really start pushing now.
"It's exciting to see what guys like Tanner Rayner, Jake Lloyd, and Aiden Brohm can bring this year and see if they can start pushing for regular SEABL minutes."
Meanwhile, former teammate Kendle is tipped to earn a call-up for the NBL’s Brisbane Bullets following season-ending injuries suffered by Cameron Bairstow and Anthony Petrie.
