Police are appealing for witnesses to a string of burlaries in recent days, including one in which approximately $18,000 worth of tools was stolen from a business in Quarry Hill overnight on Wednesday.
Detective sergeant Steve Rainey of the Bendigo crime investigation unit said two offenders forced their way through the front door of the business, stealing various tools including a Kinchrome socket set and several kits of cordless Makita power tools.
“There’s a range of different varieties of these combo tool sets, there’s six piece there’s four piece and there’s three piece so they’ve taken multiple packages of all of them,” he said.
Sergeant Rainey said the burglary occurred at about 2.20am on Thursday and police were appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at that time.
“We believe there was a four-wheel-drive used and anybody that may have been in that area and saw a 4WD should contact us or Crime Stoppers,” he said.
Sergeant Rainey said police were investigating whether closed-circuit television footage would assist in their investigations and urged anyone who came into contact with similar tools to contact police.
Meanwhile a male offender was discovered inside a property on McIvor Road on Thursday afternoon.
Sergeant Rainey said a neighbour interrupted the burglar after hearing noises and the sound of a dog barking at about 1.20pm.
“It looks like he was disturbed before anything was taken,” he said.
In a separate incident, a property on Harpers Road in Mandurang was broken into between 9am and 3.30pm on Wednesday.
Sergeant Rainey said the offenders had entered the property through a window and taken clothing, medication and some items of jewellery.
He said the break-in was a timely reminder for those living on Bendigo’s outskirts to keep an eye out for their neighbours.
“People in those outlying areas just need to be vigilant,” he said.
“If anybody saw anything in that area during the day that looked a bit out of the ordinary, like an unusual car or anything like that then please give us call.”
Anyone with information should call the Bendigo police station on 5448 1300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
