A SECRET warehouse party has been indefinitely postponed after council warned it could face tens of thousands of dollars in fines.
The City of Greater Bendigo issued a public warning that fines of between $36,000 and $225,000 could apply to parties held in venues which did not have a Place of Public Entertainment (POPE) permit.
The event organiser – who asked his name be withheld – told the Bendigo Advertiser he was working with the secret venue owner and council to secure a POPE.
But he has not been told when – or if – the approval will be granted, leaving him “sitting on [his] hands”.
“Council hasn’t actually been too bad,” he said.
“They’re all for the idea, they just want to make sure it’s all good and everything is in place.
“Hopefully we get approval and, hopefully, it’s sooner rather than later, so we can get a few parties in before Christmas.”
Party goers can sing up to the event website for notices or follow the Warehouse Party Bendigo - Secret Location Facebook post for updates.
