TWO men accused of robbing and threatening people with weapons during a violent home invasion will stand trial in the Victorian County Court.
James Carey, 35, and his brother Keith, 30 were among a group of men who allegedly entered a Kennington home on March 13 to recover a $40 debt owed to an associate.
On Thursday, they were ordered to stand trial following a two-day committal hearing at Bendigo Magistrates Court.
The court heard James allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old man at the house before helping to kick down a bedroom door and threaten the occupant with a machete while demanding money.
Keith is alleged to have wielded a knife during the incident and later struck the 18-year-old in the head with a beer bottle.
During Thursday's hearing, the court heard evidence from a witness who saw the brothers and two other men with goods including a machete, sword and laptop allegedly stolen during the incident. The witness told the court the items were brought to her house in the hours following the burglary and later stored in a shed at her property.
Magistrate Jennifer Tregent committed the men to stand trial for armed robbery, intentionally and recklessly causing injury, threats to kill, common assault and theft.
But she discharged the aggravated burglary charges, ruling there was no evidence the pair intended to steal when entering the home.
The pair formally entered not guilty pleas and the case was adjourned to December.
