DAY ONE: Teachers games kick off in Bendigo
The annual Victorian Teachers' Games made it's way to Bendigo on Monday.
With the games, came teachers eager to celebrate and enjoy their school holidays.
City of Greater Bendigo worked hard to secure the event to come to Bendigo and with good reason.
The event is estimated to inject more than $2.5 million into the city's economy.
The event attracts more than 2000 teachers with an estimated 1000 extra people.
The event welcomes people from every corner of the state.
Council's city futures director Stan Liacos said the event attracted new economic value to the Bendigo economy.
"This is a great event for Bendigo as it not only provides economic gain but importantly showcases our great city and provides promotional benefits," he said.
Games host, School Sports Victoria, chief executive Jude Maguire said the event the influx to the chosen town was considerable.
“From the get-go, we have had amazing support from the council, our major sponsors and local sporting clubs and this year’s Games couldn’t have happened without them," she said.
