Victorian Treasurer Kim Wells will release the state budget tomorrow, while his federal counterpart, Wayne Swan, will release his budget the following week.
Mayor Alec Sandner said the Ravenswood interchange, where the Calder and Calder Alternate highways join, was in urgent need of government funding.
“We require funding to upgrade the Calder at Ravenswood,” he said.
“That is starting to become a really dangerous intersection.”
Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards has also called for state funds to upgrade the Ravenswood interchange.
Cr Sandner said regional councils needed further funds to maintain their rural roads.
“If we got more money for Roads to Recovery that would be good,” he said.
“There are quite a lot of rural roads that could do with some upgrades.”
Roads to Recovery is a $1.75 billion federal government program to help state governments and councils maintain their road networks.
Councillors have backed two projects within the past year that require additional funds.
The state government has committed $5 million for the council’s proposed $14.5 million airport upgrade.
The council also hopes to build a $25 million indoor aquatic centre, which would include a 50-metre pool.
Cr Sandner said the council was yet to apply for federal funds for its airport redevelopment.
He said he hoped both levels of government would support the proposed aquatic centre.
“We would really like to see federal funds for the airport and funds from anyone for the aquatic centre would be nice,” Cr Sandner said.
