BENDIGO residents and organisations have thrown their support behind a community Christmas feast.Cash, offers to volunteer time, gifts and decorations are among the generous donations that people have offered. The Reverend Tracey Wolsley said the response to the community lunch, which was resurrected this week after almost not going ahead, had been remarkable – but more was needed.“We’ve had a great response so far but it’s going to take an even greater response to pull it off,” she said.As well as helping out on the day, people can volunteer their time in the lead up to the lunch, Ms Wolsley said. “I’m trusting we’ll get a load of volunteers and we’ll need people the day before as well,” she said. The lunch will cost about $8000 and donations are much-needed.Ms Wolsley said the the fact the lunch – for those without homes or loved ones to celebrate Christmas with – had gotten off the ground said much about the community’s spirit. To register as a guest, volunteer or donor, phone 0408 568 802.
