IRISHMAN Michael Quinn was last night named the Bendigo Bank Bombers’ Carter medallist as their best and fairest for 2010.In what was a tight count, Quinn polled 166 votes to win from runner-up Stewart Crameri (148) and Bachar Houli (141).Quinn’s win is a fine reward for his persistence and dedication to Aussie Rules. The 20-year-old is a former Gaelic footballer in Ireland, before becoming Essendon’s first international recruit when he was selected with pick 64 at the 2008 rookie draft.“Michael played some really good footy this year, and also got the opportunity to play some senior footy with Essendon as well, so this is a good result for him,’’ Bombers coach Shannon Grant said.“He’s one of the most coachable young guys I’ve come across.“He listens, follows instructions and regardless of what his role is, he does what’s required for the team.’’Quinn – who played a variety of roles ranging from forward, defence, midfield and wing – was unable to attend last night’s function at the Shamrock Hotel as he is home in Ireland. Also last night, Ben Duscher won the Graham Warfe Memorial Award as the best first-year player. As part of last night’s function, the Bendigo Diggers-Bombers Team of the Decade was announced.
