Several athletes will compete in Athletics Victoria’s XCR series for the first time as 15-year-old Matt Buckell steps up to race for the division three men’s team.
Racing for the open divisions will be five legs of 6200 metres.
The division three men’s line-up will be led off by Andy Buchanan and be followed by Brady Threlfall, Archie Reid and Nigel Preston.
All starred in the half-marathon or 10km duels at last weekend’s Gold Coast marathon.
Bendigo leads the XCR division three men’s ladder by 10 points.
A highlight will be the 50-plus women’s category where Jill Wilkie, Julie Marr and Anne Buckley join forces.
Melissa Douglas, Amy Holmes and Alice Wilkinson will contest the division four women’s relay.
Bendigo will compete in men’s division six, and field two teams in the division seven men’s relay.
The under-18 girls of Yazmin Hayes, Taryn Furletti and Tullie Rowe will race a 3100m leg each.
Victorious in last summer’s Ern Hammer Memorial Handicap, Jackson Eadon teams with Sebastyn Andrea and Harrison Boyd in the under-16 boys relay.
Racing starts at 12.45pm at the Sandown Racecourse on Princes Highway in Springvale.
Meanwhile, Athletics Bendigo will run a Winter Warmers meet this Sunday at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road, Flora Hill from 10am.
Events include 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 1500m walk, hammer, javelin, shot put, high jump, pole vault, and triple jump.
