MORE COVERAGE: Your guide to Easter in Bendigo: Pictures, stories and more
Volunteers are again out in force this Good Friday, collecting money from generous passers-by for the Royal Children’s Hospital’s Good Friday Appeal.
Uncle Bobs Club’s Bendigo branch is a primary organiser of volunteers for the Good Friday Appeal, and several groups, plus 69 individuals, have signed up to collect on their behalf this year.
President Carol Maher said the branch, with the help of the volunteers, raised about $101,000 for the appeal last year, more than $80,000 of which was collected on Good Friday itself.
For volunteers, motivation to participate comes simply from the fact the appeal is for a good cause.
Charley Daniel has volunteered to collect for the appeal a few times before.
She said so many people were touched by the Royal Children’s Hospital, and the community was lucky to have the hospital in Victoria.
By 9.30am Friday, Maiden Gully CFA captain David Mustey’s collection tin was almost full.
Mr Mustey said the brigade’s members participated every year, and the brigade was happy to support the cause.
The Central Victorian Lion Team not only performs for the Bendigo Easter Festival, but collects for the appeal.
President Garry Sea said the team, which formed 12 years ago, had collected between $7000 and $8000 in its time.
Mr Sea said the response from the public was generally terrific.
