Until Sunday March 25, greyhounds at RSPCA shelters will be available for adoption at a reduced fee of $50.
Most of the greyhounds available for adoption have completed Greyhound Adoption Program assessment, which means they are exempt from wearing a muzzle in public in Victoria.
About 30 greyhounds are currently waiting to be adopted.
“We work in partnership with GAP to create additional rehoming opportunities for greyhounds and we are delighted that they have provided extra dogs to our adoption centres for this promotion,” RSPCA Victoria Animal Care Manager Liz Walker said.
Ms Walker said greyhounds were friendly, intelligent and gentle dogs, well-suited to different lifestyles and homes.
Despite many being bred for racing, Ms Walker said, greyhounds did not need a lot of exercise, simply a regular walk and play.
