UPDATE, MONDAY 7.40am: A man remains in a critical condition with severe burns at The Alfred hospital in Melbourne on Monday morning.
The man was injured after a fire broke out in a room at the motel A Room For U on the Northern Highway in Echuca on Saturday.
UPDATE, SUNDAY 9.30am: A man who suffered severe burns in a fire in a motel room fire was flown to the Alfred hospital in Melbourne overnight.
The fire began yesterday in the A Room For U motel on the Northern Highway.
Police are yet to establish the fire’s cause, with Echuca’s Detective Senior Constable Jason Hare saying it caused extensive damage to the room.
They awaited a visit from Victoria Police’s arson squad.
SATURDAY, 5.00pm: A man is being treated for severe burns following a fire in a motel room in Echuca.
The fire started in a room on the Northern Highway, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson.
The man was taken to hospital suffering burns and respiratory problems.
The air ambulance has been called and is expected to arrive in Echuca shortly.
It’s not the only incident in the area today. This morning, a man was flown to the Alfred hospital after a truck rollover in Koyuga, near Echuca.
He was being treated for head and facial injuries. A child travelling with him was taken to hospital for monitoring as a precaution but was uninjured.
The exact circumstances of the crash were yet to be determined, however no other vehicles were involved, according to a Victoria Police statement issued this morning.
