Mayor of the COGB Cr Margaret O’Rourke said Clean Up Australia Day was an essential community event and a fantastic day for residents to come together to help clean up the local area.
“I encourage people to get involved at one of the public sites that have been organised by local community groups and other organisations with support from the city. It’s a great thing to do for your local area,” Cr O’Rourke said.
“Last year the community removed more than 1000 kilograms of rubbish from Greater Bendigo’s parks and reserves, which was a great effort.”
Volunteers must register their participation with each site coordinator online and can find more information about the event at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au.
Volunteers have been asked to wear suitable clothing, strong footwear, gloves and sun protection and should also bring something to drink and eat on the day.
