Bendigo and Castlemaine fill the bottom two rungs on the ladder, separated by 10 points.
Whichever team finishes last would then face an anxious wait, with the possibility of both White Hills and Marong, who don’t have division one teams, playing in the division two finals.
If one of White Hills or Marong was to win the division two premiership, the division one wooden-spooner would be relegated.
Despite its lowly position on the ladder of seventh, Bendigo is the form side of the competition, having won its past three games.
But if Castlemaine can replicate its strong form of last week against Bendigo East and capitalise on its home green advantage, it’s going to be difficult to beat.

Golden Square v Inglewood
This could be a dead rubber… or it could be the match that will be the focus game of the final day of the home and away season.
The importance of this match will be determined by what happened the previous night in the Friday night clash between Bendigo East and South Bendigo.
Inglewood and Square headed into the round sitting fifth and sixth on the ladder, both on 104 points – 10 points behind Bendigo East.
If East was restricted to six points or less against South then the door will be ajar for either Square or Inglewood to jump into the top four.
What a story that would be if Inglewood could finally crack it for a long-awaited division one finals berth.

Kangaroo Flat v Eaglehawk
Clash of two teams that are finals-bound.
Eaglehawk has top spot sewn up, but won’t want to head into the finals on the back of consecutive defeats after copping a 29-shot hiding off South Bendigo last week.
As for Kangaroo Flat – which will play finals for the first time since 2011 – it may still have the incentive of a chance to finish in second position and earn the double chance, depending on if South Bendigo was held to seven points or less against Bendigo East on Friday night.
