THE National Broadband Network is on its way to Heathcote as technicians begin checking pits and pipes, laying fibre backbone and installing node cabinets throughout the town.
NBN Co expects Heathcote residents will be able to connect to the network in May.
Heathcote premises are among 2700 that are currently being connecting in the region, including in parts of California Gully, Eaglehawk, Jackass Flat and other areas.

Construction is expected to start in the coming months for 8000 premises in parts of Maiden Gully, California Gully, Eaglehawk, Myers Flat, Sailors Gully, Ascot, Epsom, East Bendigo, White Hills and Huntly.
Head of NBN local Victoria and Tasmania Ebony Aitken said all rollout areas will receive a mix of technology.
“NBN will be providing access to fast broadband services through a combination of fibre-to-the-node and fibre-to-the-curb technology in these suburbs,” she said.
“Construction of the NBN fixed line network in the City of Greater Bendigo is expected to be complete this year, with homes and businesses able to order a plan from a phone or internet provider.”
Last year, Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters claimed that only areas in Eaglehawk would receive the superior FTTC, but the technology is being rolled out in other parts of Bendigo in addition to Eaglehawk.
More than 41,000 premises have access to the NBN in the City of Greater Bendigo.
