Fryer’s mark of 21.90m broke the centre record for the 70-plus age group for Flack Advisory Bendigo Region.
Saturday’s heat meant the 12th round of Athletics Victoria shield competition was switched to a later start of 6pm at the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex.
Fryer’s hot form was matched by several Eaglehawk club-mates and by athletes representing Bendigo Harriers, Bendigo University and South Bendigo.
The meet was the final warm-up to this weekend’s Victoria Country titles in Ballarat, but also to earn points to represent Bendigo Region at next month’s Athletics Victoria shield final in Melbourne.
South Bendigo’s Joan Self hit 7.50m at triple jump and broke the Centre record for the 60-plus class.
A hundredth of a second was the margin between Eaglehawk clubmates Niah Langtree and Anastazia Robinson in the first of the women’s 100m heats.
Langtree’s great season rolled on as she won the 200m.
Bendigo Harriers’ veteran Peter Cowell clocked 10:57.72 on his way to victory in the 3000m contest.

Mackenzie and Bailey Cooper put the shot to marks of 10.89m and 9.40m to lead a Bendigo Harriers one-two in the men’s event.
The men’s triple jump was a closely-fought contest between Harriers’ Kade McCay, 9.28m, and South Bendigo’s Peter Curtis on 9.25m.
University’s Anthony Messerle won the men’s discus on 35.99m.
Best at pole vault was Cooper Saunders from Bendigo Harriers at 3.50m.
