A rear-end collision occurred between two men in Napier Street on Thursday at 4.50pm and finished with the 22-year-old offending driver getting out of his vehicle to attack a 65-year-old man.
Bendigo police Sergeant Rosie Rowe said the 65-year-old man had got out of his car to exchange information when the attack happened.
“The offending driver has got out of his car, assaulted the other male and driven off,” she said.
“The 65-year-old was struck in the face but didn’t require attention from (paramedics). The 22-year-old White Hills man was arrested at his home address a short time later.”
Sergeant Rowe said the unprovoked attack was extraordinary.
“It was highly unusual and unnecessary. It is extraordinary that he caused the collision and thought it was necessary to assault someone,” she said.
The 22-year-old was charged with assault and traffic-related offences and will face court at a later date.
