The festival brings the best of shorts from Australia and around the world to more than 50 venues during its tour.
Now in its 27th year, Flickerfest is Australia’s leading Academy Award-accredited and BAFTA-recognised short film festival, the country’s largest Australian and international short-film competition.
Flickerfest will arrive in Bendigo’s Civic Gardens on Thursday, January 25. The event is free with no ticket required.
“We are building a really passionate audience in Bendigo and have got great feedback from people,” Flickerfest director Bronwyn Kidd said.
“Taking films to regional audiences is an important part of what we do.
“It is exciting to think independent Australian stories are getting the chance to be showcased to regional audiences.”
Bendigo is one of just three Victorian stops on the tour with Dinner Plain near Mount Hotham (January 26) and Melbourne’s Palace Kino Cinemas (February 14-15) the other two stops.
Categories of films on tour include the best Australian entrants, the best international entrants, a short laughs comedy section and a best of European shorts.
In Bendigo, the best Australian short films will be feature with the Lost Property Office and Fysh set to be highlights.
“The Lost Property Office is a beautiful animation that has been shortlisted for an Oscar,” Ms Kidd said.
“We have also got a wonderful film called Fysh which is about an old man and a fish that saves his life. It is a wonderful, uplifting film.”
