That’s how renowned tennis coach Roger Rasheed described his first look at the newly-redeveloped Bendigo Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
The $6 million redevelopment that includes court upgrades and a new clubhouse was officially opened last month and Rasheed liked what he saw when in Bendigo on Wednesday to hold a pair of master classes.
“I love what has been done here in Bendigo and the whole synergy of the venue is really good,” Rasheed said.
“It has a big club feel with a community ambiance as far as everything is really central and they have certainly done a really good job with it.”
Rasheed has guided some of the biggest names in tennis, including Lleyton Hewitt, Gael Monfils, Jo Wilfred Tsonga and Grigor Dimitrov, but his focus on Wednesday was sharing his experiences and providing advice to aspiring young aces aged from 11 to 18 from Bendigo and the region.
“A lot of my coaching is based around how do you get value out of your time on the court and how do you get value out of every ball that goes over the net,” Rasheed said.
“It’s also about making sure the players know why we are doing each drill and what the long term benefits of each one is.
“It’s only three hours with each group today, so it’s all about making sure they get an overall snapshot and leave with good energy.
“I’m big on giving everyone a chance because you just never know who can do what and it’s about opening the door for an opportunity.
“There might be that one player at the bottom of the pack who may turn out to be the best because they have just gone through the motions, but from a day like today it may inspire them to take the next step to become the player they want to be.”
