Leading Senior Constable Denis Farrell, from Tarnagulla police, said a ute with a trailer attached was travelling north on the Echuca-Serpentine Road when the offending vehicle approached from behind and attempted to overtake.
The road has a single lane of asphalt surface, so when the second vehicle tried to overtake, it lost control on the dirt verge and clipped the trailer attached to the ute, causing both vehicles to roll.
The 22-year-old learner driver of the offending vehicle and his two passengers were taken to Bendigo Health with minor injuries.
The driver of the ute escaped unharmed.
Leading Senior Constable Farrell said the learner driver would likely face penalties for being unsupervised by an experienced driver and attempting to overtake when it was unsafe to do so.
