The humble lemonade stand is a tried and tested way for children to earn some extra cash in the warmer months, while also helping travellers quench their thirst.
Siennah Kramer and Katelyn Tuohy, both 11, have set up their lemonade stand on Condon Street in Kennington for the summer offering a range of tasty refreshing treats.
They started on Monday – and have already sold plenty of lemonade at $1 per cup, especially on Wednesday when the temperature reached the high 30s.
Katelyn said the idea started when she saw lemons on the ground from her neighbour’s tree.
“The next door neighbour has a massive lemon tree, it was dropping a bunch of lemons so we took them,” she said.
“Then we felt guilty so we asked if we could, and she said ‘yes’, so we took them. If she said ‘no’ we would take them back.”
Katelyn is saving for a scooter – or maybe even a car later on – while Siennah is still unsure what she will spend her money on.
When it comes to the recipe, it’s quite simple: melted sugar and lemons.
But it’s not just lemonade for sale either.
The girls also have zooper doopers and prizes to be won in their roadside games.
Find them on Condon Street, between Sternberg and Williamson Streets. Just look for the sign on the power pole!
