But for the first time since the 1950s, there are changes to the way Father Christmas will make his annual run around the suburb.
Instead of Santa being driven on the back of the fire truck down every street in Kangaroo Flat, he will be stationed at a number of locations throughout the night.
But children need not fear – the annual lolly bags will still be on offer, and this year, they can also meet Old Saint Nick and pose for a photo.
Kangaroo Flat fourth lieutenant James O'Brien said the change had been a hard decision for the brigade to make, but he hoped people would understand.
“While we acknowledge it’s a change of tradition, it’s not something we have taken lightly,” he said.
When the annual Santa run began, the population of Kangaroo Flat was about 2000 people and the brigade handed out about 400 bags of lollies.
Today, there are more than 11,000 people in the brigade’s area, amounting to more than 5000 lolly bags being handed out last year.
Mr O'Brien said while there would be no change in the amount of lollies on offer this year, the new delivery method allowed for a safer and streamlined evening for all.
In previous years, five teams of five brigade members have been required to make the Santa run.
“That’s 25 people we’re taking away from their families on Christmas Eve,” Mr O'Brien said.
“But this is a trial, so we appreciate any feedback and if things need to change, we will change them.”
