The BFNL sought feedback from its clubs on the playing numbers for the reserves competition going forward, with one recommendation that teams be reduced from 18 and four on the interchange to 16 and three.
However, BFNL general manager Dennis Bice confirmed that following a board meeting on Friday morning the decision was made for the status quo of 18 and four to remain and likely be reviewed again at the end of next season.
“The clubs considered the options and believe that at this stage to continue as is with no change to anything in the reserves competition,” Bice said on Saturday.
“Some of the clubs spoke about varying options, but they are all happy to look at it again at the end of next year as part of another review.
“It was worthwhile to go through the process and for the clubs to talk about it with their coaches, but the general consensus was to leave it as is for next year.”
There had also been some consideration given to increasing the numbers in the under-18s, which is also 18 and four, to allow more opportunities for junior players, but it will also remain as is.
Meanwhile, all clubs have now had their annual general meetings, with there to be four new presidents in 2018.
Newly-appointed presidents are Eaglehawk’s Peter Ritchie, Kangaroo Flat’s Scott Mitchell and Kyneton’s Karen O’Sullivan, the first woman in the role in the Tigers’ 150 years.
Castlemaine will elect its new president on Wednesday night.
And the 2018 BFNL fixture is on the verge of being released. The season is set to start on Saturday, April 14, with the opening round to feature a grand final rematch between Strathfieldsaye and Eaglehawk.
