The Spirit (3-9) and Rangers (6-7) met two weeks ago in a game Bendigo had control for much of, before fading down the stretch and going down 80-70.
“We played well that day, but it was obviously disappointing the way we tailed out of the game late,” Spirit coach Simon Pritchard said on Friday.
“But with the rest we’ve had this week and back on our home court, hopefully, we’ll be strong enough to weather the storm.”
In what is a compact WNBL schedule this season, the Spirit go into Saturday night’s game having had a rare seven days between games.
The Spirit last Saturday executed well under pressure late in the game to win a three-point thriller against Canberra, 83-80, having trailed by as many as 15 points.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak.
“We played really well after quarter-time last week and Heather Oliver was a real key in getting some pressure up the floor on their point guard Nat Hurst,” Pritchard said.
“And it’s going to be similar again this week with Ollie matching up on Laia Palau, the Spanish national guard, and that match-up is going to be one of the keys to the game.
“Dandenong isn’t a high-scoring team, so as long as we don’t give them cheap lay-ups and easy baskets, we’re confident we’ll be right in the game.”
While the Spirit has had a week between games, the Rangers are coming off a Wednesday night match at home when they defeated Townsville 78-59.
The Spirit will be wearing pink uniforms on Saturday night in support of the OTIS Foundation, which provides retreat accommodation at no cost to those dealing with the challenges of breast cancer.
Spirit fans are urged to wear pink to Saturday night’s game and acknowledge someone special in their lives who has been touched by cancer.
Saturday night’s game tips off at 7pm.
