The St Monica’s Primary School student will represent the Big V in the 100m sprint and the 4 x 100m relay.
Davis had always been a quick sprinter, but he didn’t realise how fast he was until he won his way through to the state titles this year.
“I ran 14.18 seconds at the Loddon Mallee zone race,’’ Davis said.
“Then I went to Melbourne (state titles) and I fell over in my heat, but still managed to scrape through to the final.
“In the final I won in a time of 13.84 seconds.”
A keen footballer with St Monica’s, Davis is starting to take his athletics seriously.
“I’m not sure what’s my favourite now (footy or athletics),’’ Davis said.
“I’ve been going to Melbourne every week for training. We work on technique and practice for relays.”
More than 4000 school-aged students from at least 10 countries will compete at the Pacific School Games.
11 sports will be represented – basketball, diving, soccer, goalball, golf, hockey, netball, softball, swimming, touch football and track and field. Cathy Freeman and Melinda Gainsford-Taylor are two Australian athletes who progressed from the Pacific Games to compete on the world stage.
