There were tears and cheers among the hundreds of Bendigo Senior Secondary College students who this week bid farewell to 13 years of schooling at an emotional graduation ceremony at Ulumbarra Theatre.

Acting principal Linda Lyons congratulated the Class of 2017 on their academic and extra-curricular achievements, offering them one last piece of advice: the Latin phrase “Qui Patitur Vincit”, or “Who perseveres conquers”.
Attendees were also entertained with performances from the schools’ music students and staff.
The occasion was also a chance for students to offer thanks to their parents and to teachers, who assisted them in their senior schooling.
“I have been really impressed by some of my teachers here, some have influenced me a great deal,” student Deakin Wells said.
Asked to single out one teacher, Jasmine Marek named her learning advisor, who she said was a fantastic mentor.
“He supported my choices and helped me stay on track,” the school-leaver said.
