Playing for the first time since 2006-07, Serpentine had a competitive 198 on the board to defend, but it wasn’t enough as Arnold – led by 84 from Michael Dale – answered with 217.
Serpentine opening bowler Jacob Murley jagged 4-61.
• Boort-Yando handed reigning premier Bridgewater a round one defeat.
Boort Yando resumed at a shaky 3-33 in reply to the Bulls’ 148.
However, knocks from Jonathan Lanyon (56) and Alister Knight (45) set the visitors on the path to 7-194 and a 46-run victory.
• Kingower kickstarted its season with an outright victory over Newbridge.
Newbridge resumed at 6-33 in reply to Kingower’s first innings 101, but added just 16 more to be all out for 49.
Nick Leach did the bulk of the damage for Kingower with 4-10 off 11.1 overs.
Kingower cracked a quickfire second innings 1-91 declared off 23 overs – a lead of 143 – before sending Newbridge back in.
However, with Newbridge only having eight batsmen, the side was all out for 103 in the 35th over.
• Wedderburn dug itself out of trouble to get over the top of Inglewood by eight runs.
Wedderburn was on the ropes at 6-76 chasing Inglewood’s 159.
But a fighting 62 from Steven Giorlando was the catalyst for Wedderburn reaching 7-167.
David Smyth (4-26 off 14) was the pick of the bowlers for Inglewood.
NORTHERN UNITED
The second round of the Northern United Cricket Association’s Twenty20 competition featured a tie between Bagshot and Raywood.
Raywood compiled 9-86 after winning the toss and batting before Bagshot was dismissed for 86 with four balls still left in its innings.
Bagshot had looked in the box seat to win when it was 6-72 in its chase, before losing 4-14 to finish level.
• Round two started on Friday night under lights at Colbinabbin when the home side defeated Elmore by 25 runs.
Hadleigh Sirett cracked 61 in the Ducks’ 3-134. Elmore answered with 9-109.
Colbinabbin’s Matthew van Run had a good night with the ball, taking 4-20.
• Calivil cruised to a seven-wicket win over Heathcote.
Anthony Dennis (4-2) and Phil Brown (3-4) took a combined 7-6 for Calivil as Heathcote was bowled out for a paltry 47. Calivil took 9.2 overs to reply with 3-48 to win its second game.
• Goornong (6-107) held off Dingee (98) by nine runs to win its first game, with Jamie Daff’s unbeaten 51 helping the Mountain Goats to a winning tally after they were sent in by the Blowies.
The third and final round of the Twenty20 competition will be played on January 6.
