Water Wise Water Trucks Australia specialised in components for water trucks and was debuting the newest version of its Heeler water cannon.
The cannon was getting plenty of interest – and not just from children firing jets of water into a pond behind the company’s stall.
Water Wise’s Simon Jones said the cannon had been in development for five years.
“It’s a bit of an accomplishment, really. It (product development) involves a lot of people and you’ve got to learn a lot of different processes,” he said.
After designing and building a prototype, work then went into refining the product so it would reach the right price point for the market, Mr Jones said.
“Anyone can build anything if you don’t have to worry about the price. But we have to make it competitive for our main target market in the US,” he said.
Traditionally water cannons were made in the United States and were designed for fire trucks, Mr Jones said. Water Wise’s target market was the earth moving and mining industry.
Meanwhile in the General Interest Pavilion, business proprietor Vana Borcich was showcasing the newly launched Nature Lab skincare range along side long-standing BabyScent Natural Skincare products.
Ms Borcich had been intimately involved in the development of both skincare ranges and her business was a regular at events like the Elmore Field Days.
“It gives us great exposure to new demographics that normally would not have access to our products. We are an online business,” she said.
The business began 14 years ago when Ms Borcich developed BabyScent products to help her son, who had eczema.
The latest range came after a new niche market had been identified.
“BabyScent caters for the whole family but there are people who don’t have kids or babies,” she said.
The company had created several new products and revamped others with a more adult look, which Ms Borcich said had been well received at the field days.
