Bendigo Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Peter Bullock said the 30-year-old Jackass Flat man was working on his car in his driveway about 3.30pm when the car dropped onto him.
Off-duty firefighter Tim Weston said he saw a neighbour standing in the middle of the road, screaming, and realised something was amiss.
He raced across the road to find the man “buried up to his guts under the car.”
Mr Weston and another Good Samaritan secured the car, jacked it up and dragged the man out from under it.
“We just worked together and got him out,” Mr Weston said.
Meanwhile, another neighbour called triple zero.
Leading Senior Constable Peter Bullock said the man had injuries to his left arm and to the left side of his forehead, and suspected abdominal injuries.
Paramedics transported the patient to Bendigo Health.
Police believe the man’s driveway might have been a factor in the incident.
Leading Senior Constable Bullock said the surface was not level, and believed the car was not secured with chocks or wheel stacks when it fell.
