The note still features two of Australia’s most prominent writers, Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Patterson, but it has new security devices that set it apart from its predecessor.
These include a clear, top-to-bottom window, a patch with a rolling colour effect, fluorescent ink and raised printing.
There is also a tactile feature that is designed to assist people with a vision impairment.
The Reserve Bank of Australia will progressively remove the old $10 from circulation, but it remains legal tender.
The introduction of the new $10 note follows the release of a new $5 note last year, which had the same security features.
The new $50 banknote is expected to enter circulation in late 2018, while remaining denominations will be introduced in subsequent years.
