CFA members were called to the Olinda Street property in Quarry Hill shortly before 3.30pm.
The fire occurred in the home’s kitchen but was contained before it could spread and all of the house’s occupants are safe.
Senior station officer Tim Bruechert said the property suffered significant smoke damage but it was largely contained to the kitchen.
“They were cooking, heating some oil on the stove, it’s ignited and it’s been drawn up through the exhaust fan but it hasn’t extended into the roof space,” he said.
“Fortunately we were able to prevent it spreading through the rest of the house.”
