Ballroom dancers will come from throughout Australia to showcase their skills at Bendigo Stadium on Saturday for the ADS Bendigo DanceSport Classic.
Andrew Colliver, of MarShere Dance Studios in Bendigo, expected the event to draw about 1000 people to the city.
“It’s a really good thing for DanceSporters as a whole that everyone comes together,” he said.
MarShere was one of three Bendigo dance studios that urged the Australian Dancing Society and DanceSport Victoria to bring the competition to Bendigo.
Allegro Dance Academy and iDance Bendigo also championed the cause.
Mr Colliver said encouraged central Victorians to show their support for the event, which was extending the reach of ballroom competition dancing in the state.
Bendigo residents are eligible for discounted tickets, which can be purchased from either of the three dance schools.
Special admission is $30, or $15 for the evening session.
The day session begins at 10am, while the evening session runs from 7pm until about 10pm.
