Firefighters were called to the Railway Place address just before 6.30pm and police are treating the fire as suspicious.
Swan Hill Sergeant Roberta Barry said the north end of the house was completely burnt in the blaze.
No one was home at the time of the fire and the cause is still unknown.
CFA investigators and police arson chemists will visit the scene today to determine the cause.
