Odin Gillin, 20, was charged with the stabbing murder of 18-year-old Hayden Coleman on September 10.
Forensic pathologist Heinrich Bouwer told the court Mr Coleman was killed by a stab wound from a knife which caused his lung to collapse, resulting in massive blood loss. The wound was 13 centimetres long.
Forensic physician Nicole Cunningham was questioned about cuts to the hands of Gillin, but she said it was difficult to determine their cause. Gillin also sustained cuts to a lower calf, possibly caused by broken glass.
Dr Cunningham, who examined Gillin two days after the alleged murder, said the cuts to his hands were likely caused by a sharp object – like a knife – passing through his hands at speed.
“It would have to be a movement that resembled a single movement of a sharp implement through the hand,” she said.
Witness Michelle Russell, who drove Gillin to the address on the night, told the court of how at least 10 men and boys attacked Gillin in front of a house prior to the alleged murder.
She said the attack happened when Gillin approached the doorway to the house on Energetic Street, while she sat in her car.
“I heard a noise, I looked across, I saw Odin hunched over... getting hit in the head,” Ms Russell told the court.
“I couldn’t see any faces because he was in the doorway.
“As I got closer, they started coming out more, and then more people come, and there ended up being a lot more people out in the yard.”
Ms Russell said Mr Coleman stood in front of her car as she was about to drive away with Mr Gillin.
She broke down in tears and could not continue her evidence. She will continue on Thursday.
