The Bendigo Basketball Association has 11 girls and five boys who have been invited to the four-day under-12 Jamboree, which will be held in Echuca from September 23 to 26.
The Jamboree invitees announced on Wednesday night were selected following last weekend’s BVC under-12 skills days held at nine regional centres.
From almost 1000 young basketballers who attended the skills days, 120 boys and 120 girls have been invited to the Jamboree, which aims to further develop player skills.
“The Jamboree concept first commenced in Europe and BVC is proud to continue the development of this long-established regional Victorian event,” BVC general manager David Huxtable said.
BVC participation co-ordinatior Craig Hockley said trimming the number of invitees to 240 following the skills days had been a difficult process for coaches.
“Each year it’s evident that local associations are working at developing their athletes,” Hockley said.
“It has been a challenge for our coaches to select just 240 for the BVC Echuca Jamboree.”
